Hello to all SBARC members and friends:

Reminder: The Goshen Fair is coming to town !

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, August 30, 31 and September 1, 2008, the Southern Berkshire ARC will operate a ham radio info booth at the Goshen (CT) Fair in Goshen, CT, The club will have Special Event HF and VHF stations set up, with the call W1G. During this 3 day event, we have an excellent opportunity to meet and educate the public about amateur radio. Many radiograms are generated to friends and families and certificates are awarded to kids who learn how to tap out their names in Morse Code.

Set-up for this event will be on Wednesday, August 27, meeting at the Sharon Community Center at 4 PM. We need people to volunteer for set-up and take-down for the event. http://www.goshenfair.org/

As you know, on Sunday July 27, 2008, the Southern Berkshire ARC in a partnership with the Mt Beacon ARC, provided Emergency and Safety communications for the Harlem Valley Rail Ride. There were 17 ham communicators in the event, including several from our area; Doc K1CTT, Dave K1DAV, and Dave K1DJW. This was an action packed event with some 1400 participants. While there were some glitches in communications, with a major thunder and lightening storm thrown into the mix, many calls were fielded, some emergency, but mostly routine. The Sharon repeater really performed well, especially in the areas of Kent, Sheffield, MA and many areas with difficult terrain. The Field Day entries for the club were submitted to the ARRL and preliminary scores will be discussed at our next club meeting on Monday, September 8. Enjoy the rest of the summer and I hope to see you all "at the Fair". 73 / 88 Ed N2JBA

2008 ARRL New England Division Convention and Hamfest will be held from Friday August 22 to Sunday August 24, 2008, at the Holiday Inn Boxboro Woods, Boxborough, MA.

There will be a full schedule of forums on many interesting topics and a giant hamfest both indoors and out; this is sometimes referred to as "a mini Dayton".

Boxboro only happens every 2 years and is an outstanding event. Please GOTO the following link for more info. http://www.boxboro.org/home.html
